The Evolution of a Family - A Story of Birth, Love, Faith, and Surrogacy

8/24/2024

This is a mini-documentary telling the story of a couple that elected to build their family through surrogacy. They made such a bond with the surrogate that carried their firstborn that it was mutually decided that she would carry for them a second time... and finally for one last pregnancy journey. The final pregnancy depicted is followed from embryo transfer through the birth. You may need a tissue!

Nursery Tips

7/17/2024

I was asked to collab on a blog about planning the perfect nursery by Redfin. Redfin is a technology-powered real estate brokerage that aims to redefine real estate in the customer's favor. Their blogs cover a wide range of topics related to real estate, including home buying and selling tips, market trends, home improvement ideas, insights into various neighborhoods and cities, and lifestyle topics. Their goal is to provide valuable information and guidance to anyone navigating the real estate landscape and to enhance their overall lifestyle.

As a mom of 4 and more recently, a postpartum doula, I definitely have had a chance to experience a variety of nursery layouts and how they lend themselves to ease of use in a normal day-to-day setting. Some things work really well while other things... well...

It was a fun chance to share some ideas! You can check it out HERE. If you're considering a postpartum doula to help ease those first few days or weeks, let's connect!

As a doula-tog I get asked fairly often what should go in the hospital or birth center bag. I thought I would go ahead and share this list of things I have found to be handy! I recommend for anyone planning an out of hospital birth (at either a birth center or at home) to also have a hospital bag ready in the event plans have to change.

COVID-19 and Planning For Your Birth | San Antonio Birth Photographer

Over the last two + years it has become evident that COVID-19, or the Corona Virus as it's also called, is here to stay.
Most local hospitals are only screening for the normal things: Are you sick? Are you coughing/sneezing/do you have a fever? Have you been around anyone that is?  As with most viruses there will be ebbs and flows of the number of active cases at any given time.
As your due date approaches be aware of any changing restrictions your place of birth and/or provider(s) may put in place. While it's important to be respectful of any requirements as long as they are truly in place to maintain the safety of you and your baby, remember that YOUR STORY, YOUR BIRTH, YOUR CARE, and YOUR RIGHTS still matter.  Don't let anyone tell you differently.
We are here to help in any way we can.  We want you to still feel safe and comfortable documenting your pregnancy, birth, and those early newborn days.  Feel free to reach out with any concerns!
My personal recommendation (for what it's worth) is for anyone that is low risk to consider an out of hospital birth.  Do the research, interview midwives, find out if you'd be a good candidate, and know your options.  Out of hospital birth with properly trained and licensed providers has always been a safe option for most pregnancies, and it has never been such an appealing option as now.  I know that it's not possible for some, but if it's something that is available to you, it's worth looking in to.  One of the reasons I chose to birth outside the hospital with my last 3 kids was my desire to have freedom to move around, have whomever I wanted there for support, and to eat and drink when I wanted to as well as to birth somewhere that isn't frequented by sick people.  Keep in mind that many midwives and birth centers have payment plans and early-pay discounts.  Some insurances cover their services as well.  Don't misunderstand, hospital births are sometimes necessary and they can be amazing.  I know that they are the only option for some families.  Ultimately I just want you to know you have options.  Whatever you decide, make sure that you are comfortable and confident with wherever you choose to bring your baby into the world!

I loved meeting Caitlin and her mom when they came in for our first consult.  Everything felt so comfortable and easy with them, I was thrilled when Caitlin said she definitely wanted to book!  Fast forward to now, a little over 2 years later, and I am counting down the weeks until I get to be in the birth room with her again as she and Scott bring another little boy into the world.  As we all get more and more excited about meeting their new baby, I thought it was about time I sat down and blogged Hudson's birth!
"In the weeks leading up to Hudson's birth, I read lots of books, articles and blogs. I also cleaned the house like a nesting mom for a straight month and prayed that everything would go smoothly!  Ultimately I knew that God wouldn't give us anything we couldn't handle."

If you try it I'd love to hear how it goes!  What are your plans for Halloween this year?  I have a couple of mommas due around then, so I will just be handing out candy and waiting on a couple of little pun'kins to arrive!  LOL

National Midwifery Week | Mamarazzi Photography

Having had 3 of my 4 children at home, I have a soft spot in my heart for midwives.  My respect and love for midwives has only grown these last several years as I have had the honor of working with them in the birth space.  As National Midwifery Week comes to a close I wanted to do my part to say thank you.  I have been piecing this together over the last week and a half and I'm so pleased with how it all came together.

To the midwives I have had the honor of working with, and those I hope to work with one day.
To the midwives that held my hand, wiped my brow,

I am VERY slowly trying to catch up on blogging birth stories. LOL  I'm kind of the worst in terms of blogging, but we have been working this year to stream-line things a bit more so I can carve out more time to write!  Today I am sharing the (FAST) birth of Elijah!

    About Jennifer

I am a Christian, an artist, a singer, and a total birth nerd. Ever since I can remember, I've loved taking pictures, movies, and helping people. My best friend and soulmate, Bryan, and I have been blessed with four beautiful children and a wild and woolly granddaughter. Some of my favorite things to do are helping families prepare for and navigate labor and birth, and helping them capture beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.

I also really like coffee, movies, sorting my Skittles, painting and stamping my nails, and game night with friends and family!

Welcome to a tiny glimpse of my world!
